The Story of Curbie
On a warm summer night in the late 1970's, Herb and Dorothy Taxistand of Murrells Inlet, SC gave birth to a healthy, 4100 lb baby boy. Curbie spent most of his childhood driving every chance he got, meeting and socializing with as many people as he could. Little did he know he had a higher calling...
Fast forward, Spring Break 2001 - Curbie the college boy, months from his BS in Taximotion, is barside and loving it. Then a proverbial dark cloud takes over the mood: the clock reads 1:58 AM, cell phones are abuzz for rides to come, many check the sky for rain, some are already walking.
"Bartender, why doesn't anybody take cabs around here?", asked our undergrad. An old work-worn '58 Ford pickup rolled over, surprised by the out-of-towner's ignorance, "Won't no Taxi come't these 'ere parts boy! Myrtle Beach must think we's cursed... 'er live in caves! We need cabs too, ya know."
With that exchange, Curbie realized his purpose in life. Pushing his way to the front of the crowd, he honked his horn and began his decree. "Fine people of Murrells Inlet, you have the same rights to taxi service as anyone else on the Strand. Starting now, I promise to give you the greatest taxi service anyone at the beach has ever seen!" And he did.
Taking the Grand Strand by storm as the home of the London Taxi, Curbie expanded Creekside Cab by adding luxurious Ford Crown Victorias and several more spacious vans to the fleet in 2008.
